Second Stimulus Check Update June 2020

Second Stimulus Check Update June 2020

We have heard everything from $2,000 a month, the $4,000 Explore America tax credit, families receiving $6,000, another round of $1,200 checks, essential worker pay, and the list goes on and on.  The question is “what the heck is going on?”  and in this video I’m going to tell you what’s happening

We have heard so many bills and ideas being thrown around surrounding the next stimulus, and truth be told, I feel that if you’re going to do something do it and if not stop stringing people along.  I’m a firm believer that faith without works is dead.

There are so many people out there right now that are hurting, trying to make ends meet, and are in need of additional assistance to sustain the basics.  Republicans are taking a “wait and see” approach when it comes to the next stimulus.

And what they’re waiting is for The Labor Department to reveal next week whether the U.S. economy was able to improve or not.  Another strong month of employment gains will most likely quash a Democratic push for a new round of stimulus checks and extended unemployment benefits that are scheduled to expire at the end of July.

If job numbers are not looking so good for June, that will likely increase pressure on Senate Republicans to pass another package that will include individual stimulus checks.

Many leaders understand millions of people are experiencing financial difficulties, but they also believe a stimulus check is too expensive and doesn’t solve the problem.

The next stimulus package will come from Congress. While the White House may have input and help draft the legislation, only Congress can authorize legislation for the next stimulus package.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has opposed second stimulus checks, citing the high cost and his focus on other legislative priorities (like appointed federal judges). Republicans control the Senate and will have the final say on whether second stimulus checks will be included in the next stimulus bill.

Congress likely will vote on the next stimulus package in July. (A stimulus package does not necessarily have to include a stimulus check).  As of the recording of this video, Senate Republicans have not supported a second stimulus check.

The president has floated the idea of a second stimulus check before, but he has also stressed the importance of other priorities to stimulate and grow the economy like payroll tax cuts.
